Cover and Green Manure Crop

A crop grown either between orchard trees or on fields between cropping seasons to protect the land from leaching and erosion and to add organic matter and fertility to the soil.

Critical Area Planting

Establishing permanent vegetation on sites that have or are expected to have high erosion rates, and on sites that have physical, chemical or biological conditions that prevent the establishment of vegetation with normal practices.

Windbreak/Shelterbelt Establishment

Windbreak/Shelterbelt Establishment consists of linear plantings of single or multiple rows of trees or shrubs or sets of linear plantings.

Filter Strip

A strip or area of herbaceous vegetation situated between cropland, grazingland, or disturbed land (including forestland) and environmentally sensitive areas.

Pasture and Hayland Planting

The establishment of either a native or introduced forage species.

Riparian Forest Buffers

A riparian forest buffer is an area of predominantly trees and/or shrubs located adjacent to and up-gradient from watercourses or water bodies.

Rangeland Planting

The establishment on rangeland of adapted perennial vegetation such as grasses, forbs, legumes, shrubs and trees.

Tree/Shrub Establishment

Establishing woody plants by planting seedlings or cuttings, direct seeding, or natural regeneration.
